Franchising has existed as a significant sector for a some now. Markets all over the world have marvelled at its rapid development, particularly during the second half of the previous century. Here are another ten staggering figures from the field of franchising, if only to add to that.

There are 7,59,240 franchise locations globally, producing a total of USD 757.2 billion in economic production.

The IFA (International Franchise Association) estimates that 4% of all small firms in the USA are franchisees, therefore even small and medium-sized enterprises are seeing an increase in franchising.

Less than 100 units are operated by the majority of franchise brands.

Seven-Eleven had 68,236 locations worldwide as of March 31, 2019, making it the largest franchisor in the world.

In fact, all but two of the Top 20 franchises in the world—Tim Hortons (Canada, Rank 18) and CNHLS—have their corporate headquarters in the United States of America (Also called Wallace Foods, China, Rank 19). In all, 70 of the top 101 franchises are located in the United States. The lone Indian brand on the list is Cafe Coffee Day (Rank 46), which has roughly 1800 locations. (From Wikipedia)

The Indian franchise market is expected to expand by roughly USD 140-150 billion during the next five years.

Economic Times, cited

With a total economic output of USD 250 billion, QSR (Quick Service Restaurant) franchisees are in first place, followed by business solutions with around USD 100 billion.

Additionally, McDonald’s makes $3.89 billion in royalties.
